El Colombiano S.A. is a media company of the Gómez & Hernández Families that publishes for example the El Colombiano newspaper of Medellín, one of the regional newspapers with greater readability in the country and of high influence in the public opinion of Antioquia. Likewise, the Gómez and Hernández are owners of one of the two economic newspapers in Colombia, La República, which circulates at a national level. They are also part of the Grupo Nacional de Medios S.A., together with two of the most important families in the regional press: the Galvis of Santander and the Lloreda of Valle del Cauca. Through this alliance, they participated of the failed tender for the third channel, along with the Grupo Prisa and are behind the edition of the most widely read popular newspaper in Colombia, “Q´hubo”, which besides of having presence in Medellin, it is also printed in 11 departments of the country..

 

From El Colombiano S.A. & CIA. S.C.A are shareholders of the only press agency of the country, COLPRENSA and are founders of ANDIARIOS.

 

The political tendency of Gómez & Hernández families is conservative. From the beginning of the first presidential term of the Antioqueño Álvaro Uribe Vélez, the El Colombiano newspaper supported his political project, a support that was maintained during his second presidential term and even later. Some of its members held governmental positions in his governent and are members of the Democratic Center political party.
